The university staff union on Monday declared a permanent strike because of the integrated personnel and salary information system and the non-implementation of the 2009 agreement. In particular, Mr. Lagi called for the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement, the payment and inclusion of academic allowances earned in salaries, the release of funds for the revival of the Nigerian university system, the visiting body in federal universities and the dissemination of public universities. They have been consistent because they have timelines for addressing them, and the government is not doing anything against them. If the government has to release 25% of the money needed to fund one aspect of the agreement by November 2019 and the government has done nothing, and it has not even called us to make a statement. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Federal Government will hold a meeting in Abuja today to support deliberations on stopping the ongoing ASUU strike and resuming full academic activities. . . .
